Convention Center Awarded “Glass Recycling Program of the Year”

Recently The City of Branson was awarded “Glass Recycling Program of the Year” by Ripple Glass of Kansas City. The city competed for this award in a four-state area including Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Iowa. Branson received a perfect score from the panel of judges deciding the Ripple Glass award. The Branson Convention Center managed by ASM Global received over 17,000 pounds of insulation that was awarded to the city for their tremendous achievement.

Green Initiatives
Environmental sustainability is becoming more and more important in the lives of every human being and the operation of every business. The Branson Convention Center and ASM Global are committed to raising awareness and taking action to make its facilities throughout the world more environmentally friendly. The Branson Convention Center staff is dedicated to reducing its environmental impact by saving energy, reducing, reusing, and recycling.
Composting
Almost 75% of the waste generated by commercial food operations can be composted. Food waste composting reduces waste disposal costs, conserves landfill space, and highlights the commitment the Branson Convention Center is making to being green. Composting is a natural process that turns organic material into a nutrient-rich soil amendment that is valuable to industries and the environment. Composting diverts materials away from landfills, which are costly and are an unsustainable method of waste disposal. According to the United States Environment Protection Agency, buried waste is the #1 source of human-caused methane gas, a potent greenhouse gas that is a major contributor to global warming. When organic material, such as food and yard waste, decomposes in an anaerobic or oxygen-free environment, like a landfill, methane gas is produced. Since composting diverts these materials from landfills, it thereby reduces the amount of methane gas that ends up in our atmosphere.
Going Green at the Branson Convention Center
- To conserve energy, we program our escalators, HVAC, and lights based on our clients’ schedules.
- We reduce the amount of energy wasted through our use of motion sensor lights, sinks, and toilets.
- Our center has a single-stream recycling program and a back of house compositing program. Both contribute greatly to our waste and diversion goals.
- Almost all of our cleaning agents and materials are environmentally friendly.
- When skylights and ambient lighting aren’t enough…where it’s most effective, we only use low energy lighting.
- We are continually educating clients and attendees on BCC’s sustainability initiatives.
- The Branson Convention Center’s Catering Services division is equally committed to sustainability.
- Lamps are the most energy efficient available, including using LED lighting when possible.
- After event hours, all unnecessary lighting is turned off.
